Filmmaker Alex Gibney zal zijn nieuwe documentaire over Steve Jobs voor het eerst laten zien tijdens het jaarlijkse South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival. Dat is vandaag bekend geworden tijdens de onthulling van de line-up van het festival.
Op het festival in Texas zal de documentaire ‘Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine’ voor het eerst getoond worden aan het publiek. Gibney besteedt in de documentaire aandacht aan de invloed die Steve Jobs tijdens zijn laatste jaren bij Apple had op de relatie tussen mens en computer.
Gibney heeft de ‘Steve Jobs film’ gemaakt in samenwerking met CNN Films. Op de website van SXSW is een synopsis van de 120 minuten durende documentaire te lezen:
When Steve Jobs died the world wept. But what accounted for the grief of millions of people who didn’t know him? This evocative film navigates Jobs’ path from a small house in the suburbs, to zen temples in Japan, to the CEO’s office of the world’s richest company, exploring how Jobs’ life and work shaped our relationship with the computer. The Man in the Machine is a provocative and sometimes startling re-evaluation of the legacy of an icon.
Gibney is overigens niet de eerste de beste documentairemaker. Hij won in 2007 met zijn documentaire Taxi to the Dark Side een Academy Award voor Best Documentairy Feature. Daarnaast produceerde Gibney de HBO film Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God waarmee hij drie Emmy Awards won.
